LEECH (Jalouka) (A better and simple device for, various diseases. ) 1. Leech is a blood- sucker, a slim acto parasite, Herudo Medicinalis. Jala means water and ok a means home- Leech recites in water, So it called jalouka. It is mentioned in Indigenous Medical Science, from the very beginitig. Sushrut is Indian Surgeo.He has written surshrut s,anhita. If the chapter by name jaloukavacharaniya every thing about leech is written scientifically in details, 2. There are two types of Leech paisonous and non- poisonous, Non-poisonous Leech is used in Medical Science. Anotomy, Physiology and Cultivation of Leech is described in sushrut samhita. It's length is from 1 1/2 c.m. to 45 c.m. It has two mouths, two hearts and 300 teeth, Some of these lichees do not suck the blood. Leech saliva has certain medicinal properties. Leech is a live laboratory, Leech-agriculture is already started in foreign countries. In fatal conditions of certain diseases, it is observed that, Leech application performs miracles so foreign Medical field, at present, is just Leech frantic, Really Leech is a boon to medical science 3. Leech: a most'delicate instrument : It is usefull in Rakta Mokhan or Asra- Visruti. It means out dripping of bood, Leech is applied mainly when pitta is faulty and blood is intensively impure. Severe pain local and pervanding swell ing, non-healing poisonous wound diseases of blood-circulation and nervous system are some of the ailments, where Leech-application is a bettcrs remedy, For imfants, aged and weak persons, pregnant women Leech application is more usefull, It is included in Panch-karma. 4. In foreigh countries, at present Leech-application is prescribed mostly in Gangrene certain chemicals in Leech-saliva are also usefull there in some of the diseases. 5. How Leech functionate ?   Leech sucks the blood. There are other devices also for extracting the blood, just as cow-horn, Gourd etc. Leech is, no doubt a live pharmacy, because while sucking the blood it discharges certain ingredients through saliva. There contain the following chemicals:- a) Hirudin- Which prohibits blood-clotting, b) Prasaran-which destraies minute bacilli, c )Sandnyahar- which creates benumness, d) Himatin which disolves the clots in the blood. 6. Leech is termed as Anushastra This is a para- surgical process. It is onc ofthc specialities of ayurved. Shastra means sharp instrument. Anushastra Though not so sharp acts like it can be used in molestation and Imergencies. 7. Leech performs triple function: It pierces, Pricks and secretes. Before sucking the blood Leech maks a y-form wound, This wound is pure and quick-healing. No pain or swelling. No Antibiotics, nor Anasthesia insicion is much mini mised. Surgical steps are also lessened. The part of the limb remain intact while the ailment disappears. The mark of insicion also disappears. 8. Surgical emergencies and Leech   a)In a stroke upon a delicate limb like head, excessive bleeding is fatal. Here Leech-application is much usefull. b) Piles is a disease in Rectum one of the vital parts in the body. Here also, Leech-application is a quick and sure remedy, without any complication. c) Intestinal Inflammation like Appendicitis, is also cured with Leech in no time. 9. Leech alone is effective in several diseases. Bacterial bodies in blood create diseases. When such impure blood is expelled out of the body, these bacterias are also expelled and blood begins to circulate normally. This is called sampraptibhanga in Ayurved. All these various .diseares are created through inflammation. Leech application is the best remedy for it. 10. Leech-therapy is usefull nearly in all surgical cases; Acute condition, Chronic condition, preventive stage, etc.   a) Acuteness ocurs in severity, acute local pain like appendicular colic pain, toxic wound, burns, unbearable headache, boils, fissure, piles, perilous dis eases of delicate limbs, perilous motertations like decaing wound, epidmic dig eases, obstractions {n the movements of limbs, etc.   b) Chronic condition occurs in skin-diseases, blood diseases, Rheumatism, Chronic Rhematism, piles non-neaJing ulcer, Elephantities Myopia diabetic foot, varicose vein, Erythema, tumour Malignant growth~ Gout etc.   c) Preventive remedy- Leeches should be used for local purification in Autumn there by seasonal molestations, like skin diseases, Diabetics, Paralysis, Swell ing etc are restricted.   d) Somtimes surgery is not preferable, but treatement is necessary. Leeches could be applied here. In post surgery-molestations also, Leech is a sure remedy. In various branches of surgery like, orthopeedic, ophalmic, plastic, Brest, Ano-rectal, E.N. T., Dental, Neuro etc. Leech can be used.   e) Inseeveral diseases like Gangrene, wounds, Swelling, Diabetic molestations Tumours, malignant growth, Eissure, Piles, Thyroid diseases, Abscess, Brcsl disease, Eye-wounds, Ear-diseases, Rupture, Nerevolls-system diseases,Dumbness, Dullness, deafness etc, Leech is a sure remedy. 11. Inshort, Leech is one of the most benificial and delicate treatments. It is very cheap and short. Timing patients daily routine is not obstructed. He can leave the hospital in no time. antibioties are not necessary. Pre-surgery precanutions like Anesthesia is also not necessary. Patient does not evcr fcel that a major surgery is done with him. Limb-amputation is also prohibited in gangrene. Leech is a sort of boon in rural areas. It is a best para surgical and cosmetic instrument. Each and ev.ery word about this Leech on Ayurved is true.
